We are pleased to welcome you to the Town of Red Cedar. Below is a summary of important services, permits, and local regulations to help you get settled in your new community.
Winter Road Safety & Snow Removal
Pushing snow, ice, or other materials from driveways, sidewalks, or private property onto town roads or public rights-of-way is prohibited under Wisconsin law. Violations may result in citations and fines.
Right-of-Way Regulations
Property owners should be aware that the town right-of-way generally extends 33 feet from the road centerline on each side of the roadway. Items such as trees, brush, lawn ornaments, landscaping materials, and other structures should not be placed within the right-of-way. Mailboxes are the only privately owned structures permitted in the right-of-way under Wisconsin law and are placed there at the owner’s risk.
Burning Permits
A burning permit is required before conducting outdoor burning. Failure to obtain a permit or comply with daily burning restrictions may result in citations, fire response charges, or other penalties. To obtain a permit or learn whether a burning ban is in effect, contact the Menomonie Rural Fire Department at (715) 232-2414.
Building Permits & Inspections
Building permits, inspections, and land-use administrative approvals may be required before beginning construction or property improvements.

Dog Licensing
All dogs over five months of age must be licensed annually. To obtain a dog license, contact the Town Treasurer at (715) 556-5063. Failure to license your dog may result in citations and fines.
Town Hall Rental
The Town Hall is available for community events and private rentals. For rental information and availability, contact the Town Treasurer at (715) 556-5063.
Fireworks Permits
A permit is required to discharge fireworks within the Town of Red Cedar. To request a permit, contact the Town Chairman at (715) 556-2244. There is no fee for the permit; however, permits are issued at the Chairman’s discretion. Violations may be subject to citation or fines by the Dunn County Sheriff’s Department.
Land Division, Rezoning & Site Development
Town approval and applicable fees may be required for:
- Certified Survey Maps (CSMs)
- Plats
- Rezoning requests
- Site plans
- Special exception permits

Temporary or Seasonal Residences & Camping Units
The Town regulates the placement and occupancy of temporary and seasonal dwellings, as well as camping units. For permit requirements, contact the Town Clerk at (715) 556-5034.
Alcohol Beverage Licensing
Organizations seeking to sell fermented malt beverages at picnics, festivals, and similar events may need a Temporary Class “B” License. For licensing information, contact the Town Clerk at (715) 556-5034.
